Just a quick note to contemplate.
I believe that whatever George W. Bush speaks about tomorrow night it won't be on the reality of the state of our great union.
The reality of this presidency is that it began with and is still a failure. George W. Bush began by loosing the presidential election of 2000. He then, because of a laisse-a-faire attitude, arguably allowed terrorists to attack and severely injure this nation but what he has done that is most egregious is he has consistently lied to this nation as he has executed a never ending stream of failures. And those lies have cost and continue to cost this nation dearly.
We are all, as a citizenry, guilty of allowing this president and his minions to continue to dictate this nation's political discourse to our own and the national detriment. We seem to continuously allow this administration to divert the attention of the nation from the stream of never ending failures.
Let us just focus on the state of this nation's relations with the rest of the world. Because this president lied in order to take us to war in Iraq he has alienated our most staunch allies and fragmented that alliance on a semi-permanent if not permanent basis. Additionally he has severely damaged any potential of establishing new allies in the developing world and has in essence isolated the United States almost to the point of having no global influence outside of shear military might.
We need only look at the domino effect that his ill conceived plans for the democratization of the Middle East have reaped. Let's do some quick bullets here.
Diverted attention from Bin Laden (the mastermind of 9/11 and not an Iraqi) thereby basically allowing him to continue his terrorism for the past nearly 5 years.
Created a training ground for terrorist and killing fields for Americans and Iraqis alike in Iraq.
Alienated the Muslim world even more than it has ever been and created an atmosphere conducive to al Qaeda recruitment that is a gift to terrorist leader's world wide.
Created an atmosphere in the Muslim world that has created a perfect environment for militant elements to take over in Iran, Iraq, and Palestine with others close behind.
Created an antagonistic atmosphere that has emboldened countries like Iran and North Korea to advance their nuclear programs.
I have not seen a single democracy created by George W. Bush but I have seen many countries that were once ruled by moderates if not allies to the United States become hostile militant governments with openly anti-American postures. That is a brief summary of our foreign policy.
This is just in foreign affairs. The failures on the domestic front are just as bad and he has an administration and Republican Congress and Senate being consumed by a cancer of corruption and cronyism. The Democratic Party must take this message to the American people. We cannot continue to let this president and his administration continue to direct the national discourse. The Democratic Party must focus on this presidents failures while simultaneously presenting a positive alternative. They must give the American people an attainable vision that is better than what this president is giving them and they must do it now. If we do not find the way to carry our message to the American people this country is headed for a not so pleasant future that I do not care to contemplate.
Samuel Alito should never have been the story this week but just part of the story of failure of this president.
Those Are The Sergeant Majors Thoughts On That.
