The diary title is a direct quote of the headline of
CNN's 2nd lead CNN's Main headline right now.
A fuller quote of what Bush actually said (at a Cabinet meeting this morning) is below, but I just wanted to look at that sentence and marvel. The full statement is even worse.
This deal wouldn't go forward if we were concerned about the security of the United States of America," Bush told reporters during a Cabinet meeting.
Let's parse what he said, not what he meant. "If we were concerned with port security, we'd scuttle this deal." Bravo, Mr. President. Our point exactly; you're not concerned with port security, and this is only the most dramatic example of that lapse. Thank you for the admission.
He added, "It's really important that we not send mixed messages to allies."
He said that officials will continue talks with members of Congress so that "people understand the logic of this decision."
"People don't need to worry about security," Bush said.
(emphasis added)
Well, there goes the Republicans' "Be very afraid, and then vote for us" strategy. George Bush just said we don't need to worry about security.
Has he just gone crazy, has he decided to see just how low his poll numbers can go, or has he started drinking again? Take the poll.
