Elections were held Tuesday in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In these local elections Democrat Kathy Taylor beat incumbent Republican Bill LaFortune (love the name, by the way) with 51% to 46.57%. Another Democrat, Phil Wood, also won the race for Auditor (54-46).
Now, I admit turnout was low (30%) but Tulsa County (since I'm not from Oklahoma, I don't know whether the county encompasses more than just the city) voted for Bush in 2004 by a large margin. Bush got 163,452 votes while Kerry received only 90,220 votes. To have a Democrat beat an incumbent Republican in a city like Tulsa must be a good sign for the races ahead (like Busby in CA) and an even better sign for the midterm.
I know this is just a small entry but I believe it deserves some attention, if just for the usual 90 minute diary ride to oblivion. I only found out about the election in Tulsa via a great internet site
http://www.rulers.org that has information on who governed when around the world and also updated news to election results and government changes around the world. Didn't see it anywhere else though.
