Did anyone happen to catch Barbara Boxer on Hardball today? She did an amirable job hammering on Bush and his warmongering ways. But there was a slip that I found somewhat startling and perhaps more revealing than we might otherwise notice:
"Chris, we need a new president."
Ms. Boxer knows of course that the president's terms does not expire until Jan. 2009 and she also knows that this ensuing crisis with Iran is not going to be put on hold until then. Why, pray tell, could she possibly have been talking about needing a new president?
(Does she know something we don't know?...)
I think she, and I suspect other fellow legislators, are beginning to find that the nightmare in the White House is not a dream at all - its all coming true and its a horror show of hostorical proportions. Don't think for a moment, with the house of cards falling down around them, that suspicions are not being raised about what this administration, backed into a corner like a rabid animal, might do in tense moments like this.
I'll bet you there may be some in congress who have their own little set of contingency plans prepared to deal with such a situation. Can't imagine it has not been contemplated in our history - the possibility of a president trying to usurp total control of the military to carry-out a personal crusade. (starts with an I, ends with a T)
I'm just sayin'.
