Well, we have a President who is a dismal failure. Gas prices are off the chart. Iraq is a mess of unique proportions. There's the question of Iran and nuclear proliferation. There's Darfour. There's North Korea. There's the "Immigration Problem." Global Warming. Economy. Israel/Palestine. China.
I can go on and on with important problems that the world is facing. And don't get me wrong, Anderson Cooper does give time to these important problems. As do the other networks. But what the fuck is this fascination with this white boy who raped the stripper? Why are we listening to this constant drivel about an 18 year old who may or may not have committed a sex crime? The entire country is possessed by this story, why?
I guess we've run out of murdered blonde bimbos.
Perhaps it's that the networks have a quota of sensational crime stories that have to be filled in order to keep the piss poor attention of the American People on their channel? Could this explain the MTV style flashy graphics?
Since the departure of Aaron Brown we have been witness to the dumbing down of CNN, at least in my opinion. The ridiculous flash graphics of the Situation Room was part of it, they just seemed to be copying FOX news. Now there's not a network worth its salt, not that CNN was so hot to begin with.
I don't mean to trivialize rape or murder. But these stories don't rise to the level of national news, and we all know it. And if CNN wants to let Jerry Springer run its newsroom, that's their business, not mine. But we have to tell them that we don't want to hear about the Little Ivy League rapist just because he's a cute white boy. There are hundreds of other rape cases every day that don't get told just because it doesn't have the same kind of "gossip" appeal.
So now I just watch the NEWSHOUR. I just can't stand the MTV graphics, the fake sincerity of Wolf, or the Naive enthusiasm of Anderson. And I write to them and tell them that I'm not interested in the bimbo angles. And I question them on giving Nancy Grace a show of her own. And I pray for our country, because the corporations don't want us to hear the real news, and we won't, `cause it loosens their grip on the entire mess.
