On the eve of losing online rights in America, some haven't even noticed that on a global basis, net censorship is in full swing.
A recent article published by the BBC , outlines the findings of the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) pressure group.
Julien Pain of the RSF notes
In many nations, the net used to be the only uncensored outlet and the place people turned to for news they would never hear about through official channels.
However, noted the report, governments have woken up to the fact that the people they regard as dissidents are active online. Many are now moving to censor blogs and the last year has seen many committed bloggers jailed for what they said in their online journal.

Here in the United States it would be ludicrous for us to assume that the current COPE bill is nothing more than a power grapping ploy to make corporations wealthier than they already are.
Indeed, this cannot be the case. One level of retriction of this design, regardless in what form that restriction manifests intself, will eventually also include restricting the right to freely interact with each other in the manner we as people choose.
There are individualized threats that do exist on the net, but they are relatively small compared to the amount of people who use it and can be brought under control without other restrictions.
The COPE bill will serve as nothing less than the first pry bar crack, that by design, is intended to break the whole, "damn".
