It's Saturday, and I'm not in Las Vegas. But, An Inconvenient Truth just opened here in Sacramento at the vintage
Tower Theater. I've been waiting for the movie to come to town and today is a great day to go. So, how are we going to get there? Are we going to drive over 30 miles (one way) in a gas guzzling car? I don't think so...
Just check this out.
We're going to drive about ten miles in our Honda to the closest Light Rail station that is open late. We'll take Light Rail downtown, transferring from the Gold Line to the Blue Line at 16th St. Next stop is Broadway, just a couple of blocks from the theater and a cool café.
We're making an evening of it. I already bought the tickets, and we'll be having dinner first at one of the nearby café's. Then we get to watch the long awaited documentary by Al Gore, our should-have-been President.
I take Light Rail every day to work, but this will by my husband's first time on the train. I'm really excited about the entire evening! If I can't be at YearlyKos, this is a great alternative. I hope to see tons of people at the show tonight.
Update: Just got back from the movie. Everyone. Has. To. See. It. Period.
Besides the frightening things we've all seen in the trailer, there are some cool charts and graphs about the rise in CO2. Al has to get on a fork-lift type thang to go high enough to point at the peak we're at now. It's only going to rise exponentionally, if we don't start to turn things around. There is a lot of personal stuff in the movie about him growing up, and when he first learned about global warming in college.
He's warm, funny, personable, erudite, and engaging. The audience clapped for some parts, and a few hissed when Bush was shown.
On our way, there were people protesting the War and Bush on the opposite corners from the theater. Our Light Rail trip was fun, and on the way home, was especially entertaining. A guy got on with a bicycle. He apparently had headphones on, and I think had been drinking. He sang for miles. Pretty loudly, and pretty badly, too. People around were cracking up. I thought to myself that I couldn't possibly understand what he was singing, when all of a sudden it hit me. Brick House!
Anyway, great movie, great night. Lots of people there to see the movie. Go see it. I, for one, am going to try to find a way to make an impact.
