President Bush let his views be known on Larry King calling
Ken Lay a "good guy." Its remarkable that after four years of attempting to distance himself from his good friend that he would make his true feelings known. I found it intersting that Bush said he would write a "personal letter" to Kenny Boy's wife expressing his condolances.
I found this interesting, because Ken Lay was one of the biggest corporate thieves in history. His and Skilling's schemes cost thousands of people their jobs and retirement savings, not to mention the havok Enron brough to California energy markets. Yet Bush writes a personal note.
I've got a good question Mr. President: What about Iraq?
What about the
2500 US soldiers that have died there? What about the thousands more that have been seriously injured?
I'm sure many remember the revelations in 2004 that Rumsfeld was using an automated signing machine on letters sent to the families of soldiers who died in Iraq. That sparked public outcry, eventually changing the practice, but it gave a window into the priorities of the administration.
Bush's writing a personal letter to Mrs. Lay highlights these priorities further.
Wives of notorious criminals: Signed letter from President Bush
Families of war dead: Automated signature from Rumsfeld (until changed under public pressure).
