The New Mexican Revolution has begun. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador gave a stirring yet concise speech to at least 2 MILLION Mexicans in Mexico City's great Zocalo plaza today.I say at least 2 million because the official count was reported at 1 million 100 thousand, and the government never lies, right?
Remember, the last Mexican Revolution was just about 100 years ago and for much the same reasons: the Mexican people were fed up with being ruled by autocratic elites who imposed neo-liberal (look it up in Wikipedia) economic policies on the country.

I have spent the last several hours translating his speech. I have posted it in its entirety, with the spanish in italics. Anyone find any errors, let me know.
Too bad Gore and Kerry (especially Kerry) and the Dem leadership did not have the cojones this guy and his people have.

All you and I know that all these efforts are not in vain. The cause that we are defending is of great historic transcendence for Mexico.
You are here not only to help one man, but to defend the inalienable right of the people to freely choose who they are governed by. And that, to be precise, is what we should have as the very clear central objective of our movement. We are not only struggling for the recognition of our legitimate triumph in the presidential election, but for a greater cause, that which gives value to democracy in our country.
We cannot accept any retreat, any steps backwards from democracy. In the recent political history of our country, the opening of the system to achieve free, fair and clean elections has come at great sacarifice, including the lives of thousands of Mexicans.
We cannot accept that by money, tricks and illegal means a privileged group wishes to impose an illegitimate president.
We cannot accept that they cancel the right of the people to a better life by way of democracy.
We cannot permit that they take away our right to hope. For, I repeat, the general objective of this movement is the defense of democracy.
As is our right and duty, we are going before the Federeal Election Tribunal, to demand that they order the opening of the electoral packets and begin an authentic recount of the votes.
It is not by accident that the phrase "vote by vote, polling station by polling station", has emerged from the people and has great support and deep meaning.
I am informing all of you that, more than the divisive attitude of the Federal Election Institute during the campaign; of the manipulation of the computing sysytems; the lack of fairness in the advertising buys in the mass media; of the rivers of money of unkown origen that were spent by our adversaries; of the illegal acitivism and the interest groups created; of the dirty war; of the use of public programs and resources in aid of the candidate of the right, such as the tenacious interference of the president of the Republic, I can now tell you that, besides all of this, they falsified the results in the official counting and computation.
For example, in the review that we have undertaken, 60 per cent of the total of 130 thousand 788 official precinct counts have "math errors", which is to say that there are thousands of of counts where the total vote plus the surplus ballots, is less or more than the official inventory of ballots; thousands of precinct counts where the total vote is less or more than the cast ballots; and thousands of precinct counts where the total vote plus the surplus ballots is greater or less than the voter list, plus 10.
I will make myself clear: there are close to a million and a half votes that are not accounted for in the electoral ballots; that is, the official precinct counts do not reflect the true extent of the vote, because they recorded less or more votes than were actually in the ballot boxes.
From our perspective, this in great part explains why, when we were permitted to open some electoral packets and perform a recount in the District Councils, there were cases where the candidate for the right, fraudulently, had 100 to 200 votes too many and we were 100 votes less, in each polling station.
All of these proofs were presented in detail and on time in the complaint we have filed with the federal Election Tribunal. They now have the elements, both in number and in degree, to oreder the opening of the electoral packets and count vote by vote, polling station by polling station.
I am absolutely certain that, if they undertake a vote by vote recount, that it will show that we triumphed cleanly, legally and legitimately in the elections of July 2.
From this public place, I make a call to the candidate of the right to act in a responsible manner and accept, without excuses, the review of the official results and the vote by vote recount of all the polling stations in the country. If he truly believes he won, he has no reason to say no. He who is without blame, has nothing to fear. I recommend that he think about the stain of a fraudulent election, a stain than cannot be cleansed with all the water in all the oceans. I would remind him as well that Mexico, our great nation, and its people, do not deserve to have a spurious pressident of the Republic without neither moral nor political authority.
Furthermore, I repeat, it is not right that our adversaries take refuge in legal subterfuges, for lack of time or technical ability, to deny the opening of the electoral packets, when what is in play is the democracy and political stability of the country. No one should fear that this election is clean, that it is resolved and judged before the eyes of Mexico and the world.
No es mucho pedir que haya transparencia. Reafirmemos todas y todos nuestras demandas:
It is not too much to ask that there is transparency. We reaffirm each and every one of our demands.

So that they never close the doors of democracy.... vote by vote, station by station!
So that Mexico can hold her head high.... vote by vote, station by station!

Amigas y amigos:
While awaiting the Tribunal's resolution of our demands, we put forth for your consideration the following plans of action:
Reinforce the citizens' camps out side the 300 District council offices where the electoral packets are located.
These camps are indispensable in avoiding that ballots are illegally added to or taken away from the electoral packets.
The proposal is that these 300 camps are converted into centers of decision making, disclosure and information about our cause and that intellectuals, artists and well known civilian personalities can
come and participate.
To begin, starting this week, the first acts of peaceful civil resistance.
Integrated with this proposal will a citizens' committee that will define what type of actions will take place and under what circumstances.
Celebrate the Third Iformative Assembly on Sunday, July 30, with a march like the one today, at the Museum of Anthropology and History at the Zocalo, at 11 in the morning.
We are keeping in mind that our adversaries are betting, among other things, that our movement will weaken and lose force.
We will once again show them that when they wish to trample upon our dignity and rights, and they place themselves against the democracy, that there are always women and men of principle and convictions, that they do not tire, much less surrender. As Carlos Monsivais stated: " One who only knows discouragement and dejection will never be worthy of pessimism."
Amigas y amigos:
Everyone present and those who could not come, we should feel proud to be living these moments that are so decisive for the public life of mexico.
I am convinced, that not with all of the appartus of the State used divisively, nor with all of the money of a privileged group, nor with all the manipulation that has taken place, have they been able to squash the free, conscious and responsible will of millions of Mexicans. Let us not forget that we are millions of Mexicans, ready to give value to our rights. And this is the most powerful force.
I will like to recognize the directors of the various parties of the Coalition, PRD, PT, Convergence; of the citizens' networks and the civil society for their loyalty and cooperation. We are living in defining times, trying days, and we all know the importance of the circumstances.
As for myself, I will again say to you: You can be confident that I am not going to betray the Mexican people.
Further, I am convinced that I am not alone because we are all together.
