Electronic voting happens for the first time in Missouri today. I went and voted after finally deciding there was no way in hell I was voting in the Rethug primary even though I can't stand Jim Talent and thought about voting R just to vote against him.
My experience below the fold... and feel free to use this to post your experiences with electronic voting today.
They signed me in and then pointed me to the electronic machine where a grandfatherly man was there to "help" me. He helped me get the correct ballot loaded and then I could start voting. I touched the McCaskill box, and the check showed up in her opponents box - great. I told him it was incorrect and he just started pushing the "next" button to go to the next page. He finally said to just vote the rest of the races and then we'd go back and try to "fix" it. Luckily the phone rang and he ran off to answer it. I voted the rest of the ticket and then went back to the beginning. He returned about that time and was going to start pressing buttons again. I just said, how about I just touch the McCaskill box again and see if it changes. Well, it did. I then went to the end screen where it showed all my choices - correctly. I then submitted the ballot and that was it.
I don't fault the election judges - they were all old enough to be my grandparents (and I'm cough forty cough). I'm sure this guy probably knew nothing about the "internets." However, a system that has these people who have no clue how the thing works there to "help" is distressing to say the least.
Should make for an interesting November...
