Part of the RadioShack complex on the bank of the Trinity River in Fort Worth, Texas
On August 29th RadioShack sent between 400 and 450 emails to employees at their Fort Worth, Texas headquarters to let them know they no longer had a job at RadioShack.
I had worked at the company for over four years to supplement my income. My job was boring and I hated the two women managers, Irene and Denise. These two people did not have the necessary skills to manage a department. You need people skills as well as communication skills, and these two people had neither. There was lots of age discrimination and back stabbing. Anyone that reads Cheers and Jeers at
DailyKos have pretty much read about my experiences with these two bad managers.
This is the reason why RadioShack is a sinking ship, it's going down quickly. It's full of management people like Irene and Denise who don't know what the hell they are doing. The place is full of neo-conservative IslamoRepublicans and we all know how badly they manage money and run a country.
It was low class and in poor taste to fire 400 people by email. On ABC's Good Morning America, hosts joked that the RadioShack lesson was to never to open your email. "Read This Email-Then Scram" wrote the Los Angeles Times. "Do managers really need lessons in humanity?" asked the Dallas Morning News editorial page. "RadioShack will no doubt pay a price for its cold-hearted treatment of so many workers," wrote the Oregonian in Portland.
RadioShack hasn't received this much bad publicity in six months, when Dave Edmundson quit as chief executive because he got caught lying on his resume.
Incredibly, while the world beat up on RadioShack, the company never launched a counteroffensive public relations campaign. Where was Julian Day, named CEO and chairman two months ago? Day should have been demanding equal time from the media. He has had no on the record interviews since taking the job, and hasn't met with any local leaders, usually a part of a CEO's early routine in Fort Worth.
To almost everyone who observes or reads about this, it represents a stupefying new low in the annals of management practice. Was Dave Edmundson fired by email? Nope. Dave walked off with a million dollars in his pocket in benefits, laughing all the way to the bank.
What happened to me you ask? Well, when you are on a sinking ship you either go down with it or jump and swim for it, and I'm still swimming. I did volunteer to be laid off and the dummies didn't even lay me off. I went in on the 29th, typed up an email to Irene and Denise, telling them what lousy managers they were, how they violated my privacy, and what back stabbing bitches they are (and I never lie about anything). I cc'd Julian Day and their boss, and walked out the door. They will probably deny my unemployment benefits, but I'll fight them for it because of the stressful situations they were creating.
Meanwhile, does anyone in Fort Worth, Texas want to hire a good, hardworking man? I show up for work when I'm supposed to and I'm never tardy. I'm a people person, very trainable, honest and truthful. Attention employers, don't miss this opportunity.
