The Democrats should come to Denver. This is the place of Independent Republicans like Ben Nighthorse Campbell, Libertarians, and Reagan Democrats. This is a place that symbolizes change and motion in a more natural way. This is a place where the grassroots has always had a say and the common man could support the common good.
A little fresh air and mountain scenery could do the Democrats good as they define the real issues and prepare to take America in a new direction.
A lot of us Reagan Democrats that crossed over in 2 election cycles, 26 years ago, did so because we believed in a lot of Western values. Support for small businesses, farms and ranches for common folk, the right to own a firearm for hunting, shooting, recreation and safety.(Although I am rethinking this one in relation to all the school shootings) The freedom to raise our families and teach them the American dream. We didn't believe in torture or wiretapping or illegal government intrusion into anyone's personal life for any reason....but getting along with your neighbors here and abroad was important because...this was Colorado, the center of America!. We believed in the Outdoors, clean air and water. Preserving National forests and National Parks and wild rivers and wild animals so that people could enjoy and preserve the majesty that is here for generations. We've always been proud of our ski towns, ghost towns, mountain towns and gambling towns as places to see and visit that you couldn't see anywhere else. It was heaven for the common man and the common man could come here and experience it.
Out here we were free to practice any religion we wanted and respect all the cultures and religions that were here before us. The freewheeling boom and bust town that Denver has been for 150 years still exists for a lot of folks; it is still intact and is the crown jewel of the wild west and The Rocky Mountains. (The Democratic convention should come here!We say Welcome! We need you to restore America back to her real roots!)
We need you to help the common man... soon. Sometimes I am ashamed for voting for Ronald Reagan because he brought in all these nasty Neo-Conservatives and fanatical religious crusaders who don't share western values or even Christian values as far as I can tell. They have betrayed America and our long time allies abroad and their peoples and friends too. They have betrayed us, the common folks, who aren't too happy about what's going on in politics, government and Religion. Particularly in Washington. It is time for a big change!
I live in Tancredo's district and I think him and Marilyn Musgrave are the worst Representatives from Colorado in my 40 years of living here along with Senator Allard. They are solely focused on Gay marriage and immigration walls with Mexico. And who gives a shit about that? These government officials should butt out of people's private business or be sent back to Italy or wherever their ancestors immigrated from!
I think George Bush is the worst President in my living memory. My Great grandparents told me Herbert Hoover was pretty bad.... I can't believe that he was any worse than Bush. They were FDR Democrats because he was for the common man when someone needed to be.
A lot of people tell me I'm not so common...if that be so...let me tell a lot of you Democrats in the rest of the country: You are fighting the good fight right now. Democratic values run deep for generations in the West believe it or not. There was a time when Utah was even a Democratic state in more ways than one.
My brother works for the railroad, he belongs to a union. Nasty robber barons like Anschutz and Coors have needed to be checked by the common person to preserve our environment and way of life here. Otherwise, they would run amok like the oil and gas people are trying to do now.
I hope the voters of Colorado lead the nation again this election cycle and throw the Republican bums out! In 2004 we voted in lots of Democrats, renewable energy, healthcare, mass transporation in Denver, Culture-arts money and environmental protections... for who? The super rich? The greedy multi-national corporations? ...NO ...the common man! Mark Udall will make a great U.S. Senator in 2008 because he understands the west and he comes from a proud tradition of good Western Democrats that support the public trust.
I hope some common sense motivates ordinary people to vote for some new representation on election day and we can look back and thank good Coloradoans for leading the way.
