The CBS Evening News's Gloria Borger is on a roll. Yesterday, while covering the Abramoff scandal, she neglected to mention that no Democrats had received any money from Abramoff directly.
So far, over one hundred Democrats and Republicans have raced to get rid of their Abramoff-tainted money.
This was played while a list attributing dollar amounts to both Democrats and Republicans scrolled across the bottom of the screen.
But, today, she was worse. (rest on flip)
Her main observation from the hearings today was that the Democrats harsh comments may have upset Alito's wife. Rather than discuss the merits of the Democrats' claims, she showed a clip of Mrs. Alito tearing up while Senator Graham heaped praise on the Judge:
Graham: Are you really a closet bigot?
Alito: I'm not any kind of a bigot.
Graham: No, sir. You're not. And you know why I believe that? Not because you just said it, but that's a good enough reason because you seem to be a decent, honorable man.
Instead of questioning why Senator Graham believes he should base his decision for a life-time appointment on the Supreme Court on his sense that the nominee "seem[s] to be a decent, honorable man," she concluded her report with this:
...and, in the end, the question is whether the Democrats took this a step too far today, Bob
Now, that is quality journalism.
