Calling on all kossacks and citizens in Loudoun and Fairfax Counties in Virginia! A special election for a vacated state senate is fast approaching. We need you!
On January 31, a special election will be held for the state senate seat vacated by Bill Mims in the VA-33 district. Mims, a moderate Republican, left his seat to become deputy attorney general for Virginia. His seat presents a great opportunity for the Democratic Party to pick-up another state senate seat and to show conservatives that tolerance, progressive ideas, and real solutions propel Virginia to the future, not drag it to the past.
The neo-conservative, Mick Staton, is the son-in-law to Dick Black, the former house delegate who lost his reelection bid to a moderate Democrat, David Poisson. You may remember the two neo-cons in a Washington Post article found in a previous jsmdlawyer diary here.
Here is an excerpt from the article.
Gay-Themed High School Play Sparks Va. Protests

The Loudoun County students who staged a play over the weekend about a high school football star's homosexuality heard some gasps, along with expressions of support, during their play's two-day, modestly attended run at Ashburn's Stone Bridge High School.
Now, thanks to a high-decibel dust-up over freedom of expression and values, student writer-director Sabrina Audrey Jess's one-act play, "Offsides," has a dramatically expanded audience.
Del. Richard H. Black (R-Loudoun) e-mailed his supporters claiming that, in the play, "two male students engaged in a homosexual kiss onstage" and that public schools were "being used to promote a homosexual lifestyle." His son-in-law, Loudoun County Supervisor Mick Staton Jr. (R-Sugarland Run), followed up with a missive of his own, warning of the play's disturbing "indoctrination." On Sunday, activists blanketed Loudoun churches with fliers decrying the production.
This knee-jerk reaction over a "kiss" was just that. A kiss never took place!!! Staton aka Black-lite is our equivilant to Rick Santorum. He proudly accepts his father-in-law's endorsement

I don't look at my endorsements that way. I am proud of all of them. I have the support of every elected official that represents my area, including Delegate Dick Black, Senator Bill Mims, Congressman Frank Wolf, and Senator George Allen. As a life-long Republican, each one holds its own value to me.
We need your help! Last November, we booted out Dick Black from office because of conservatives, moderates, progressives, liberals, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents came together to shun intolerance and extreme partisanship.
Mark Herring is an experienced Democrat who values tolerance! He's a member of the NAACP-Loudoun Chapter and someone who seeks to offer economic opportunity to all, not just the land developers and special interests. Please consider contributing

Over the coming days, I'll diary to address other issues such as education, growth, and the 'T' word (transportation).
