The Republicans took Congress in 1994 on the strength of their ideas, not based on the legislative map.
But they violated almost all of the ideals they espoused once they got there. From Newt "Book Deal" Gingrich, nah, make that Newt "Sanctity of Marriage" Gingrich to Tom "I love term limits but who will save us from the Brown Hoardes if I'm not here." Tancredo.
The past ten years have shown them to be exactly what they are: a bunch of hypocritical, bigoted whores that will sell out to the highest paying special interest john.
Their ethics code is a joke:

It's time to turn over a few tables in the den of thieves that is the U.S. capitol.
It's time to espouse the ideas that make the Democratic party a winning party: Standing up for the people training to work for a living, working for a living or comfortably retiring after working for a living. Without regard to if they own guns, what their religion is, who they are screwing and how much they make/made working for a living. We're right. They're wrong. It really is that simple and the leadership of the party needs to hammer that point home if they are ever going to win back control of congress. Look beyond those forty competitive seats.
I don't know what turned this party into a bunch of simpering milquetoasts that cower in the corner and dread hearing that bell calling them out for the next round, but nobody ever voted for a party that thinks it isn't going to win in November. So stop acting like a bunch of whipped puppies and take that message out there: We're going to win because Americans believe that people who work for a living deserve a fair shake. I'd like to buy the leadership of the party one of whatever he's drinking: WRAAAAAAHHHHH!
