The more audacious the message the more it is amplified. The neo-media love audacity, especially when it is followed up by ever larger overstatement. Welcome to the new dichotomy of GOP versus Democratic political discourse. The rules have been re-written in public with the explicit endorsement of cable news. It is a convergence of GOP audacity and the media conglomerates. They both feed off each other creating a never ending cycle of hyperbole turned into news product. The GOP gets talking points out (regardless of reality) and the FNC/CNN gets their story
Where and when this new dichotomy came into being is for another diary. Suffice it to say, the Democratic Leadership in DC is almost clueless about it's existence. The big heads of the party came upon the scene post Vietnam/Watergate. Congress was still in the golden age of gentleperson's "respectfully disagree" that both parties ascribed to. Well, the "fuck you" addendum was floored, voted, and passed by the Neo-GOP, who neglected to inform their distinguished colleagues across the aisle. One would think the big heads would have noticed that a "fuck you" supplement was now in place. Unfortunately, the isolation of adulation within the capital has an insulation value of R2k. Now, we have crying wives and Terrorist Surveillance. It is high time we force the big heads to operate under the "fuck you" addendum and add our own "we are going to..." postscript.
Sincerely,
