We've all been hearing a lot about the dominionist movement in this country. As someone (among the many of us) exposed to hard core "literalist" Christianity in those critical formative years, I take this threat very seriously. Unfortunately, I don't know what to do about it anymore than the rest of the progressive movement does other than to start planning my escape to Canada.
So let's play a game. The rules are:
- Explain a potential outcome of a Christian thoecracy in America.
- Back it up with something that is currently afoot in government, society, the economy or the media.
- Propose a means of counteracting it.
For example:
- A state-run news organization (think Pravda during the Cold War) delivers all the "news" that's fit for consumption seen through a Biblical filter.
- The right wing media, while still operating something of a guerilla establishment, is gaining ground (proof: http://www.cjr.org/issues/2005/3/blake-evangelist.asp)
- As the more creative part of society, progressives need to develop better means of communicating among ourselves and with those who need to be convinced that doesn't rely on MSM. DKos is a terrific start, but there has to be more. And smarter people than me will have to make the propositions.
