The signs are ready.
My walking shoes are laid out, next to a Nalgene water bottle and my metrorail SmartPass. And at 9:00 tomorrow morning, I'll depart my home suburban Maryland to join the antiwar protest in downtown Washington.
If the numbers estimated by the event's organizers are correct, this will be the biggest antiwar protest in Washington since the Vietnam era. Tomorrow, we will make history.
After work today, I briefly stopped by Capital City Brewery in downton D.C. to enjoy happy hour with other bloggers in the area. The event was well-attended by a number of active posters from the liberal blogsphere, including Maryscott O'Connor and a number of other current and former Kossacks. Many of the attenders (myself included) were DC locals, but many were from all over the country, places like Ohio, California, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts.
Although we have our petty squabbles about intra-party politics from time-to-time, meeting people earlier today made me realize what an amazing organizing tool the blogsphere is. Without it, I doubt that I ever would have gotten involved with the antiwar movement.
Tomorrow, we will stand together with leaders like Cindy Sheehan and let our voices be heard. We will let the Bush administration know that their house of lies and deception can no longer be tolerated. No longer can we stand by while American troops and Iraqi civilians die in a conflict with no end in sight.
This is democracy in action, and it's beautiful.
If you'll be in D.C. tommorow, stay safe. And be proud that you are making history.
