The headline reads: "Bush picks Abramoff prosecutor for federal judgeship" and I thought, Oh My God, there is no end to the chutzpah? I didn't think it would be possible to out-do giving medals to those who destroyed Iraq and lost the war. But they have one-upped it again, in this amazing attempt to stop the Abramoff investigation.
Finally, we have a serious prosecution that is actually
sticking and
expanding and exposing the culture of corruption.
And the lies couldn't make it go away, and the spin couldn't make it go away. How can they get rid of the prosecutor? Killing him would be too obvious. Here's a better idea, nominate him to be a Federal Judge, thus getting him off the case, and hope people won't notice.
And release it to the press on a Friday, while the nation debates Alito, and hope the people won't notice that you have just tried to wipe out the most important public corruption prosecution in a generation.
The story (at http://sfgate.com/...), also notes, very importantly:
"Hillman's departure from the Justice Department creates a vacancy at the top of the Abramoff investigation only three weeks after Abramoff, once one of the city's most powerful Republican lobbyists and a major fund-raiser for Bush, announced his guilty plea and agreed to testify against others, possibly including members of Congress.
Colleagues at the Justice Department say Hillman has been involved in day-to-day management of the Abramoff investigation since it began almost two years ago."
