Well, the WaPo is still at it. On their
blog page, they're sticking to their guns and insisting that Casino Jack told his victims to send money to Democrats as well as Republicans.
In a way, I'm glad. Refusing to acknowledge the truth cannot be acceptable to everyone there, and someone's gonna crack eventually. Also, I'm taking it as another example of Gandhi's observation that "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win" that has been posted often of late. They're not ignoring, and they're certainly not laughing anymore.
Take a few minutes and drop a line to blogs@washingtonpost.com. My note follows: use as much or as little as you like.
You've made a lot of claims lately that Jack Abramoff directed money to Democrats. What you haven't done is back any of it up. Politicians dumped the money? Of course they did; they couldn't count on the media to accurately portray the difference between a dirty Republican and the victims of his defrauding activities. Nor could they expect the media to point out that there has not been one example of a quid pro quo with a Democrat, while there are Republicans who are expected to be indicted and prosecuted over just such an arrangement.
Lay out some facts, and all of this uproar goes away. Point to ONE INSTANCE where Abramoff's presence caused a Democrat to get MORE campaign money from one of his victims (clients, if you prefer). Just one. It's that simple.
There's been a lot of whining lately coming out of the Post about how the mean old liberals are saying bad words to you. Simple solution: come correct, stop acting as a puke funnel for the GOP and start thinking and reporting for yourselves, and you might not get your feelings hurt by cusses anymore. At least, not from the left.
We all know the score here. You've been beaten by the right for decades for having a liberal bias, and threatened with having your access to powerful figures taken away. That might make your jobs harder, but at least it would require that they be done honestly. The difference between right and left with regard to the media is this: the left wants accurate and honest reporting, while the right wants the media to be unable to affect public opinion lest honest reports adversely affect their public image.
Tell the truth without asking the RNC how to interpret statements and events. It might not make them happy, but it'll be honest. Isn't reporting what's really going on in the world what made you want to be in news in the first place?
