MSNBC is reporting that Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan is resigning his diplomatic post due to depression.
Bandar, the long time Saudi ambassador to the United States and a key figure in the Saudi decision to permit U.S. bases in the Kingdom during the Gulf War, resigned, said the diplomat because of recurring health problems, depression being the most significant.
Interesting turn of events. Bandar is a long time friend of the Bush family. His relationship with GW Bush was cited in the film, Fahrenheit 911.
Speculation will run rampant in DC, I'm sure, as to what the cause of his depression might be.
I have seen Bandar's name mentioned in relation to the Carlyle Group. I'll be interested to see if the White House says anything about the medical condition of their family friend.
