We blew SCOTUS when we failed to coalesce around Harriet Miers.
Harriet Miers is hardly the ideal SCOTUS nominee; in fact, she is probably grossly unqualified. We should not have cared. Given GOP control of the House, Senate and the Executive branch, it's the best we could ever have hoped for.
Instead of supporting her nomination, we carped about her qualifications. Did those of you who did not support her actually believe that Arbusto was going to nominate a less Conservative nominee?
I found this Rasmussen poll, release October 21, indicating 21% Dem support for Miers, and 40% opposition. Other polls reflected the same sentiment.

I wasn't a Kossite during the battle, but I do recall that some of you opposed her nomination.
I stil can't undersand why.
Had 90% of Democrats supported Miers, and 50% or so of Republicans, it would have been practically impossible for Arbusto to withdraw her nomination.
