Chris Carney is running for Congress in the 10th District of Pennsylvania against conservative "family values" conservative Don Sherwood. Please visit the Carney for Congress website for more information about Chris and about our campaign.
From national security to fiscal responsibility to veterans issues to the Iraq War, we democrats have the expertise, the judgment, and the record to take back the House in 2006.
In this post, we want to share some of Chris' thoughts on fiscal responsibility. We will get Chris doing some posts on the Carney for Congress blog and elsewhere in the near future, but for now he is still in South Korea, participating in an annual security exercise called Ulchi Focus Lens.
The Democratic Party is the party of fiscal responsibility. As many have noted: it has been more than 35 years since a republican balanced the federal budget. This fact gives us the opportunity to attract many fiscally conservative voters who are fed up with the borrow and spend platform of the Bush administration and the republicans in Congress.
By rolling back the tax cuts on the top 1%, we can:
- Fund the unfunded mandates, reducing the burdens on state and local governments so property taxes will fall.
- Reduce and eventually eliminate the deficit, which allows us to reduce the burden of debt we leave to our children.
- Keep the current lower federal tax levels for the Middle Class.
These are not new arguments, but they are key arguments. Some
concerned citizens in our District just formed a group to address tax issues. We are reaching out to them as we are to all constituencies. These people traditionally vote republican, especially in our area. This is a huge opportunity.
So, please share with us your thoughts on fiscal responsibility and how Chris and others can use this issue to take back the House. We are here, we are listening, join us.
