Remember back a few months ago when it came to be widely know that part of the Republicans', at least in the House, strategy was to invoke Nancy Pelosi in competitive races, hoping to tie vulnerable Democrats or Democrats mounting serious challenges to Pelosi by saying they would vote for her as Speaker. Well, that strategy apparently went nowhere.
Flash forward to post-Foley American politics. When in the hell aren't more Democrats tying Republicans to Hastert. I mean, I saw on CNN an ad from Patty Wetterling talking about the scandal. The reporter (and God, I hate CNN's political talking heads) said Wetterling's opponent, Michele Bachmann, has nothing to do with the scandal. The hell she doesn't. If elected, Bachmann, would vote to give Hastert great control over the legislative process in the House. And even if Hastert resigns, Boehner, who also knew AND gave out checks from tobacco lobbyists on the House floor, will become Speaker.
Why does it seem like an awful lot of people are missing this?
