If Democrats are successful in gaining the House, an alternative candidate needs to emerge in the race for Speaker. A trusted, independent Democrat could possibly solidify the 50 state strategy that appears to be causing the GOP fits in 2006. Jack Murtha of Pennsylvania is such an indpendent, respected Democrat whom Americans could unite around as Speaker of the House.

With the prospect of Democratic control of the United States House of Representatives, it was only inevitable that Republicans would begin to take aim at possible Democratic committee heads and the woman slated to become the Speaker of the House. This strategy is a futile attempt to paint Democrats as a party out of the mainstream of American values. In recent elections, the strategy has paid dividends for the GOP, but with Republican ethics issues, the "out-of-touch" drum beat appears to have fallen on deaf ears.
After the mid-term elections, the focus will fall on the party in control. The Republican attack ads are being overlooked by the electorate at this time and the chances for Democratic victory get greater each day. If Democrats win, they will no longer have Jack Abramoff and Mark Foley to turn to. Close attention will be paid to the Democratic leadership and de facto Speaker, Nancy Peolosi, will prove a distraction to the party as a momentous opportunity is laid at the Democratic doorstep.
Pelosi represents the culture that has existed in Washington, DC for some time. She is not serious about making changes to the current House rules. She will make new rules, but those rules will benefit the speical interests of the Democratic Party.
Peolsi's insider role in the House leadership, combined with her marching in a parade sponsored by the North American Male/Boy love group, is proof to me that she is far outside the mainstream of American values. Her politics will be unpopular in the Midwest, mountainwest, and southern regions of our country and will serve as a lightning rod to reunite the conservative coalition that appears to be cracking in 2006.

Whomever Democrats select must understand the importance of the opportunity that may be given to our Party. We can not squander the chance by selecting a Speaker that is too liberal, too California, and too out of touch with the American people. It is a sure path to defeat!
