Tuesday evening I attended a local meet & greet for
Fighting Dem Chris Carney
headlined by Joe Biden D-DE. Carney is running for PA-10. A district currently
mis-represented by the odious, oh so gerrymandered in R-
Don Sherwood-whose um
much, much younger mistress Cynthia Ore he once attempted to strangle in his Georgetown
townhouse may be seen here
which resulted in the campaign ads you can see here by Sherwood (sadly admitting
to the affair & pleading
for his job) and Carney's devastating ads, which we hope takes it away.
Local airwaves here are all over this with lots of fighting & demands for
retractions going on.
And President Bu$h is being helicoptered in next Thursday to a small college
to do a measly $350 a plate private dinner fundraiser for Sherwood! That is
sooooooooooooooooooo pathetic. Bush can't even crack $500! BUSH! I'm not even
talking Toxic Cheney! The Decider/Uniter/Peace President/War President himself!

Sherwood has strayed from our values
While I wasn't totally disarmed by Biden, it was interesting to see him in
action because he is such a pro & of course, that has pluses & minuses. He
speaks a kind of shorthand, you'll recognize phrases like "real deal" & peppers
his speech liberally (is it okay if I use liberally that way, kos? I don't wanna
get Mike Weavered) with "ain'ts" & I'm surprised he didn't go so far as to drop
the Mid-Valley an "ennah?" or "heyna?" or an "and how!"
Biden was good. Very good. I was surprised though I should not have been. One
of the best things about his talk was that it felt like a talk and not like a
speech & it was a good quick snapshot history of the Democratic Party. Where we
were, how we got here, what we should do now that we have our chance. And it's a
big chance. Biden said the Dems lost ground since Carter was wrongly perceived
as a failure here & abroad & that was never properly addressed, and that while
Bill Clinton was in charge the Democratic Party still didn't really grow or
prosper in the same time period as the Gingrich Revolution (but he didn't use
that phrase). So now that we have our chance, we really do have to reinvent this
party as a party about people.
WARNING: Don't ever, ever, ever step between Joe Biden & a
child of non-voting age in a social situation! And no, I don't mean that in the
Mark Foley sense...this post meanders through the Biden event, touches on local
press coverage with a truly shocking & extremely pleasant unfreeped poll, take a
spin through Carney v. Sherwood & ends with a big fat laugh in President Bush's
face, who is now suddenly scheduled to come to Northeastern PA to hold a
fundraiser for the disgusting Don Sherwood who choked his mistress... What? No,
I couldn't make something like that up?... more more more below...
The event was at a little Irish pub in Archbald, Pennsylvania, a borough famous
only for a giant pothole, but one which I am familiar with from childhood as my
grandparents lived there.
I do have my own problems with Joe Biden & he may actually be the Democratic
politician (not "institution"ahh ahhhh ahhhh achoo! "DNC") at whom I was most
angry about over the Democratic repsonse to Abu Grahib (although in retrospect
it seems bizarre for me to single him out--I guess I'm a sucker for high-minded
sounding language) & to whom I wrote a heartfelt letter something like this: "I'd
like to remind you that Dante reserved the Eighth Circle of Hell for a special
group of people- hypocrites who are sentenced to wear lead robes, and
flatterers, to be buried in excrement. Since you look to be spending quite a lot
of time there in the future, you'll be happy to know you'll be in good &
familiar company with your new compatriots, Condoleeza Rice & Alberto Gonzales,
as this is the very same circle of hell set aside for thieves, evil couselors,
swindlers, falsifiers & sowers of discord- of which they both clearly are...."
Okay. But that is in the past.
The local rag did
a good job writing it up, briefly:
excerpt: Sen. Joe Biden stumps for Carney in Archbald by Elizabeth Piet
10/11/2006
ARCHBALD -- Wrapping an arm around Chris Carney, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., told
campaign supporters the Democratic House candidate brings an experience in
terrorism and national security sorely needed in the nation's Capitol. Mr. Biden,
a Scranton native and six-term Senator, is the top Democrat on the Senate
Foreign Relations Committee. Mr. Carney is a Lt. Commander in the Navy Reserve
and served as a senior terrorism and intelligence advisor at the Pentagon after
Sept. 11.
"If you think I know anything about what I'm talking about in national security,
I'm telling you this man knows as much as I know about this stuff and he ain't
even there yet," he said. "This is the real deal." .... "The American
public has figured out ... the bankruptcy of this Republican philosophy," he
said. "This administration has no vision. It has an ideology; it doesn't have a
plan.".....Whether its the war in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina or pedophilia, no one
in power has been held accountable, Mr. Biden said. But if Democrats gain
control, he said, they must stand for something......Mr. Carney spoke briefly
about a tide of Democratic wins he expects in the House. "It's a palpable
feeling that change is coming," he said. He also reflected on the support he has
received. "I can not believe the progress we've made over these past few months
from running this campaign off our kitchen table to standing here tonight at
Barrett's with Sen. Biden, who may very well be the next president."
As for the presidency, Mr. Biden said he is optimistic. "The country is
waiting for leadership," he said.
I missed Chris Carney's remarks so I can't report on those. I just got to shake
Joe's hand & say- I'm so proud of our Fighting Dems this year, thanks for being
so tough (as he spotted my CLARK 04 & WES CLARK DEMOCRAT & CLARK dogtag- yeah, I
admit, I'm not subtle!) & said- Hey, tell your buddies not to take Bob Casey's
race for granted- Biden said- thanks, I'm proud too & I know, we're not- I've
been up here seven times for Bobby already... then he spotted the kid & nearly
knocked me over in his rush to bend down & release the famous mega-watt
megabillions Biden smile on the tot & say to a clearly seven year old kid,
"And now that you're fifteen, what do you want to do when you grow up..."
Flashbulbs popped...
But, good bloggers- I saved the best for last: The following poll appeared on
the same page as the Biden write up, and take a look at those beauteous
numbers!!! I thought it especially great because it's an out of the way kind of
not freeped poll. Take a look.
