Bob Ney pleaded guilty today, not any big whoop in the news, but the seriously-compromised House leadership made a surprising move by announcing that he would be expelled if he didn't resign quickly enough. That announcement came from Dennis Hastert, House Speaker and Senior Predator Protector.
Of course, Ney owned up to alcohol problems because treatment could mean a reduced prison sentence. (There was no word on his sexuality or sexual abuse as a child.) The White House joined in on the call for his resignation, scions of moral behavior. They see no reason to compare this to the Foley incident.
Don't they all? Bribe-takers, it seems, are harder to cover for than sexual predators.
Of course, Republican numbers are down, waaaaay down, in today's polls. But they want to be out front with the Abramoff scandals. Until that one reaches their door.
