Last night, I have the overwhelming pleasure to see this gem of a movie, "Man of the Year." Right now, I will tell you it is a pleasure to see. I will not ruin the movie for you, but I will give you how this movie fits todays political climate...
I don't get out very often, working in the defense sector and being the loving father of two very rambuctious kids. So, when I do find the time, I and the missus utilize the in-laws and go out. We had a wonderful dinner and sat down to watch what we hoped would be a good movie from what used to be a wonderful comedian. We were apprehensive, due to our outlook on Robin Williams recent films. But this one was pleasantly surprising, in a "laugh out loud" political comedy fest.
I will not spoil the film for anyone who hasn't seen it, but the movie revolves around a polical satirist, similar to Jon Stewart, who sits on the sidelines and tells everyone what is wrong with politics. At some point in time, it is asked why he doesn't run. So he does. Mixed in the mess is a voting machine issue similar to our friends at Diebold, so we get to see what our political satirist is made of.
There were plenty of side splitting scenes, and one in particular where a revalation is made, and an ethical dilemma is posed. At that point, Christopher Walken makes the comment somewhere along the lines of "Well, given what we know, the decision is pretty much a slam dunk." The missus missed the allusion, I found it more than profound.
For those of you who get the time to pull yourselves from the political trenches, this is a must see. Makes me almost wish the next Democratic/Independant candidate would be Jon Stewart. But Robin Williams probably says best at the end, why that probably shouldn't be...
