You'll have to excuse my short time and fuse this afternoon, as I just came in from worship and am on my way to meet with a group of pastors concerned about the direction of this great nation, but I did want all my rowdy friends here to know one thing in spite of what the current leadership in Washington may say and think.
We Christians are not "nuts" Mr. President. We are not "goofy" Mr. Rove. We don't deserve your ridicule . And we will not be pawns in your power hungry political games.
I encourage everyone, especially God fearing people of faith, to watch 60 Minutes tonight as David Kuo, the former No. 2 official in the faith-based initiatives program, pulls back the veils of deception from this administration. Then I encourage us all to join together and
take our country back.
You know, I was with John Edwards this weekend, and just so inspired by his passion for the humanitarian crises in the world. As John talked about his trip to Uganda, I thought about my church's work with AIDS orphans in Africa, and how honored I feel to be just a very small part of that of that critically important work.
People of good conscience fix broken families. That's what Christians are supposed to do. I just don't understand those folks in Washington that seem to do nothing but tear families down.
The deceptions of those that woo and ridicule sadly don't end at targeting us Christians, who are just trying to do the right thing. Poverty also is an area where that power hungry group up there has proven they'd rather wedge us apart than bring us together.
Regardless of your spiritual faith, I ask you to have faith in goodness prevailing friends. Cast the deceptions off, but don't be disheartened. There is good in the world.
And we will win.
