There's a diary on the recommended list right now by PA-08 Democratic candidate Patrick Murphy, so I figured that this might be the right time to highlight a new internal poll being released by the DCCC right now. For the first time, Patrick is leading his opponent, freshman GOP Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick!
Head to Head: Murphy 44%, Fitzpatrick 40%. When asked to assess the job tht Mike Fitzpatrick is doing, only 37% approve. Only 27% of voters in Pennsylvania's 8th district think that the country is going on the right track, while 66% say we're headed down the wrong track and only 27% give President Bush a positive rating for the job he is doing, 71% disapprove.
The poll has a 4.9% MOE, so the race is clearly a tight one that will go down to the wire. Nevertheless, this is encouraging news for the campaign, which has been showing strength since the first internal polls were released earlier in the summer. The Fitzpatrick campaign has yet to release any internals, with speculation being that his numbers show an even bleaker picture than what our internals show.
So help this Fightin' Dem get elected on November 7! I've been volunteering for his campaign every week; if you're in the Mid-Atlantic region, come on up and volunteer with us! If you have the misfortune of living too far away, then donate. Patrick's going to be a rising star in the Democratic Party, and he needs all the help he can get right now.
