We have being seeing an increase in trolls lately, and I'm not sure what the proper response is. Between the normal trolls increasing as elections approach and the whole swiffter's crowd it seems like the place has been swarming.
Normally, I just find trolls amusing. I used to check out hidden comments mostly because some made me laugh. Now I check daily hoping that the same annoying people that got trolled yesterday are finally gone. I'm not sure if it's the metrics for autoban keeping people around longer or I'm getting more impatience, but it seems that the same person that got a whole slew of troll ratings one day is back on the list the next for days on end. Reading hidden comments has become more frustrating than normal.
So, in light of this I want to make a modest proposal. Please sir, can we have some more doughnuts - at least until after the election. Or alternatively can we change the metrics so that autoban kicks in faster.
I am not asking for myself. Because of the time zone I'm in most of the troll comments have usually been covered by the time I log on and I've only used a full box once. However, I have seen many comments about other TUs running out and needing to recycle comments. Giving more doughnuts would let us respond to trolls faster and save TUs the effort of having to keep track of the doughnuts to retrieve and recycle them.
I know the limit came from the possibility of abuse, but since a cap has been placed I really haven't seen many undeserved troll ratings. Would there really be any harm in giving us more doughnuts to help handle the influx of hungry hungry trolls?
What do you all think? Is this even a problem? Or is there a better solution? I only propose more doughnuts because it wouldn't require changing the system too much to address a temporary problem, but I'm sure there are other things that could be done to help the problem.
