Rick Santorum has an unusual explanation for why the US hasn't had any 9/11-style terror attacks since that date.
He told reporters and editors from the Bucks County Courier Times that the "Eye of Mordor" (the terrorists) is focused on Iraq instead of elsewhere, referring to the Dark Lord of Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" series.
"As the hobbits are going up Mount Doom, the Eye of Mordor is being drawn somewhere else," Santorum said. "It's being drawn to Iraq and it's not being drawn to the U.S. You know what? I want to keep it on Iraq. I don't want the Eye to come back here to the United States."
Is this the Fellowship Theory of Foreign Policy, or is Ricky just feeling neglected now that the GOP seems to have written off his re-election?
Or maybe it's that Osama bin Laden -- or the Witch-King or Arnor -- is in hiding somewhere outside Osgiliath -- or Kabul? Or maybe George W. Bush -- or Grima Wormtongue -- is...
Wait a minute, I've lost the metaphor. So I'll hand it over to you, men and elves of the Last Alliance.
