However, the current policy, or lack thereof, is not working and needs changes. Unemployment in Iraq has remained close to 60% since the fall of Saddam in 2003. People are poor, hungary, and worried over their family's future. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell's statement to President Bush in the leadup to the Iraq War of, "if you break it you own it" rings loud and clear today. Iraq is a noose around America's head with the appearance of no end in sight.
The issue in Iraq is the failure to plan for the post-Saddam era. We have broken Iraq and our crediblity in the world hinges upon our response to rebuilding the nation. To run away with our tails between our legs will show weakness and prove the terrorists correct that Americans can't withstand a drawn out fight.

Until the economy is repaired, the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people will never be comitted to their new government. They view America as occupiers who care nothing about their futures. In a nutshell this is the Iraq Problem and until it is addressed, the carnage will continue to plague our efforts to bring stability to Iraq and the Middle East.
