Good evening. Welcome to Dk Poetry Slam/Open Mic. Pick out a table or sit on
the floor, come up to the mic & speak your piece. Don't be shy.
I haven't been to a reading in a few years, and I'm sure this doesn't meet the usual slam structure, but I hope it will be fun anyway.
I once fancied myself a poet back when. Now I'm just another lover of words. Whether you are a writer or an appreciator of good words, I hope you'll share the good words with us here tonight.
Feel free to post poems, play scenes and short short stories. Your own work or
the works of others.
I'll open with a poem by Denise Levertov:
Talking to Grief
Ah, Grief, I should not treat you
like a homeless dog
who comes to the back door
for a crust, for a meatless bone.
I should trust you.
I should coax you
into the house and give you
your own corner,
a worn mat to lie on,
your own water dish.
You think I don't know you've been living
under my porch.
You long for your real place to be readied
before winter comes. You need
your name,
your collar and tag. You need
the right to warn off intruders,
to consider
my house your own
and me your person
and yourself
my own dog.

Update: All are welcome to host the Poetry Slam. I can only commit to alternate Saturdays, so next Saturday is open for a host. I will try to do it on my free Saturdays, hopefully earlier than 9PM.
Bravo! to all who have shared tonight.
Update II: Yay! Darrell J Gahm will host the Slam next Saturday!
