Republican Arizona elects Democratic Governor and lots of Republicans Californian's fearful?
Clean money is about fair elections. It helps people get their message out and makes elections about ideas, not about money.
So in a state that is generally Republican, it makes sense that you'd start seeing that sort of representation. Also you'll start seeing a representation that has minorities and women, which is what's happening. But this is only the beginning of a long process. Which can begin in California with Proposition 89.
If the playing field is leveled, hopefully what you're seeing is candidates that resonate with the constituents, and hopefully are responsive to the constituents. How that affects the final outcome of the government, policy, or the whole of the United States remains to be seen.
We were founded on the principle of one person one vote and we have been retreating from achieving that dream as more and more piles of money from special interests (in-state, out of district, out of state and out of country)
manufactures our policy.
Having Clean Money will allow immensely more voices to be truly involved which in turn should create a government that reacts to those voices (instead of the demands of special interests). Which in turn will affect the people and their behaviors and positions. It's an iterative cycle and will take years before people see the true benefits.
The knowledge we gain over the years of responsive government as a voting populace will lead to more informed decisions continually. Just as we have a Constitution and ammendments, some of which have stuck and some not. Policy affects people which affects policy, and so on. The process is long, iterative, and gets smoother over time.
The bottom line is to have a government that responds to us so that we can continually make these course corrections as a whole informed and involved population.
Clean Money is the Reform that allows all other Reforms. It's the beginning, not the end. With Cleanly Elected representation, people should then be able move forward with much more confidence on all sorts of other problems:
- Gerrymandering
- Accurate voting machines
- Media fairness and public service
- Environmental protection
- Decent education
- Decent health care
- and on and on and on....
It should be whatever the voters, not the special interests demand. This Republican "correction" in Arizona might be one of many adjustments moving forward.
Clean Money is the "bunker buster". It has the potential to blow out many stale and self serving paradigms and structures upon which our politics are now built. How we rebuild this steel and concrete infrastructure system beyond the current mess (like the 100s of lobbyists per representative on K street), will be finally up to the people.
The fundamental idea of democracy is that more brains focusing on themselves leads to a much more thriving society than a suppressive selfish special interest driven one. After the suppression of money comes off (as it has in Arizona and Maine and Connecticut), we really don't know what will happen except we know it'll be more democratic, and that's the first step.
Clean Money has a shot in California with Proposition 89. It's time to do get this one right! Pass on this amazing ad: http://www.89now.org/...
