OK, [snark] so that door was wide open and I had to walk right through it..
I've not written a diary for some time - partly because I've been feverishly busy and partly because.. well, because there is just so much good material out there already I ought not clog the artery up with any other redundant or pithy pieces. So with that, I'll provide a very short observation on the topic of Keith Olbermann's stunning legacy currently in a state of rapid development below the fold.
Keith Olbermann, the cunning and brutally intelligent contemporary observer, once again produced a 'special comment' so masterful and so powerful that I fear he may have one-upped himself yet again driving the bar to heights no mortal pundit could EVER hope to attain.
Taking a cue from the great Edward Murrow, Keith grasps more than his fellow cable colleagues the serious nature of the "state of things". Recognizing that there is seemingly no check on the nefarious and cynical behavior of those in power, he has taken it upon himself to use the power of the fourth estate to remind Americans that we are at a very important crossroads.
And the rage is palpable.
Television has become as ratings-bound as ever and real commentary has suffered enormously as pundits and anchors have shied away from calling the hard shots, calling it like it is. Why? Perhaps the fear of reprisals from higher-up squelches those ambitions, or perhaps no one has the ambition at all to bother blazing through the trail of dirt and feculence the administration leaves in its wake each and everyday. Let's face it, the MSM has gone soft, paralyzed out of fear of being painted liberal and punished daily by an efficient Whitehouse campaign to tamp dissent.
So today I am all the more thankful for one person who recognizes that courage is not an act of putting one's finger into the wind, no, courage is having the conviction to call sh*t, sh*t and Keith is doing a damn fine job of it. He's become the voice for so many of us who have longed for our own talking-head hero. So watch out O'Reilly and Hannity, Coulter and Limbaugh - the days of depositing your garbage into the echo chamber free of charge are coming to an ubrupt and not-so-subtle end. Keith Olbermann is on to you.
