Delaware Dem's press conference thread scrolled right on down without getting on the rec list so I felt obliged to again highlight the flipping and flopping around that the Bush cabal is doing.
It's quite amazing and smacks of severe desperation. First comes the civil war denial:
"Americans have no intention of taking sides in a sectarian struggle or standing in the crossfire between rival factions," he said.
http://today.reuters.com/...
Oh yeah. Wink wink, there isn't a civil war, wink wink. Their aren't 40+ Iraqis killed each day plus a handful of American soldiers caught in the crossfire. Wink wink.
That's just another lie. Now for the flip-flops:
U.S. officials have avoided using the term "deadline" and Bush said a timetable for a withdrawal of the 140,000 U.S. troops in Iraq was different from such "benchmarks."
"This notion of a fixed timetable of withdrawal, in my judgment, means defeat. We can't leave until the job is done," Bush said. He said Maliki was right that no outside power could force him into actions because Iraq was a sovereign country.
There you have it.
The Democrats want a "timeline" imposed on the stalling Iraqi leaders.
The Republicans want "benchmarks" imposed on the stalling Iraqi leaders.
What a difference one word makes!
Let's look at the definitions of each word:
bench·mark (bĕnch'märk') n. A standard by which something can be measured or judged
time·line (tīm'līn') n. A schedule of activities or events; a timetable.
Or how about synonym comparison:
9 results for: benchmark
Main Entry: benchmark
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: reference
Synonyms: criterion, gauge, goal, measure, standard, touchstone, yardstick
1 result for: time line
Main Entry: plan
Part of Speech: noun 2
Definition: description
Synonyms: agenda, agendum, blueprint, chart, delineation, diagram, draft, drawing, form, illustration, layout, map, projection, prospectus, representation, road map, rough draft, scale drawing, sketch, time line, view
The thesaurus didn't have "time line" as a "main entry" but was part of the synonyms for "plan."
So, the mean Democrats want a "plan" for Iraq. God damn them. George Bush's "benchmark," his "yardstick" is the way to go rather than that CRAZY "time line" or "plan."
Thank God George Bush cleared that up.
FLIP-FLOP.
