It's been a long, long uphill battle for marathon man
Stephen Harrison, the Democrat fighting to claim the only New York City congressional seat held by a Republican.
But this endurance athlete is showing that he has plenty left in the tank, while Vito Fossella, the corrupt Republican he's facing, has hit the wall.
This week has been very big for the Harrison campaign:
Over the weekend, CQ politics upgraded his chances.
Then on Monday, Harrison gained
front-page status on the Daily Kos.
Yesterday -- his wife's birthday no less -- he pulled off quite the trifecta:
He was on MSNBC with Chris Matthews in a segment about battleground races.
He was featured in a Wall Street Journal article about running for Congress while training for a marathon.
And he owned Vito Fossella at the last of their debates.
Now today, he the race has garnered the attention of the New York Times
The media is finally starting to notice that this race is competitive.
Hopefully the national, state, and New York City Democrats will soon realize this too.
Vito Fossella has spent over a million dollars in Karl Rove-style deceptive advertising, and I know the Harrison campaign has to be frustrated that they do not have the resources to point out the fallacies and lies behind Fossella's statements to the residents of Staten Island and Brooklyn.
Vito Fossella has raised $1.8 million, while Stephen Harrison has raised around $100,000.
We are going to have to rely on old-fashioned, grassroots people power to counter Fossella's big oil money that he is using to deceive his constituents.
If you live or work in the New York City area, come volunteer.
If you even know someone who lives or works in the New York City area and wants the Democrats to take over the House, encourage them to volunteer.
And if you want a thoughtful, progressive voice in Congress as opposed to a crooked Abramoff/DeLay/Rove/Cheney/Ney sycophant who votes with Bush 89% of the time , then you can help - no matter where you live - by donating to Stephen Harrison
Check out Stephen Harrison's website for more information on why you should support him in his fight to give New Yorkers someone they can be proud of.
