So I guess we're to believe from this statement that Marsha Blackburn, the Assistant Majority Whip and the Co-Chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, was "fooled" by Rep. Foley? Perhaps someone will answer this question: "What exactly does Marsha do in Washington besides what she is told?"
While I'm willing to give a little benefit of the doubt here, the truth is that this problem has been known about since at least the spring of 2006. As reported by MSNBC.com:
"Both Majority Leader John Boehner and New York Rep. Tom Reynolds, who heads the House Republicans' re-election campaign, said they had spoken with Hastert about a complaint concerning a former page from Louisiana last spring after being hold about it by Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-La., who had sponsored the teen."
Rep. Tom Reynolds co-chairs the NRCC with Rep. Blackburn. So he felt his colleague didn't need to know the truth about their incumbent candidate in Florida? No one thought it important to share this information with her?
Rep. Mark Foley was a Deputy Whip who worked with Assistant Majority Whip Marsha Blackburn and Majority Whip Rep. Roy Blunt. So are we to believe that the Republican Leadership was never made aware that their Deputy Whip may have a problem? As Rep. Rodney Alexander was telling Rep. John Boehner and Rep. Tom Reynolds in the spring about Foley, did none of these men think it necessary to alert those working with him? What exactly does leadership mean to these people?
When asked about the situation, Democratic Congressional Candidate Bill Morrison had this to say:
"Yes there is scandal in the air and everyone is asking who knew what and when they knew. Unfortunately we may never know the truth. But we already know that this is the year of change. People have had enough and are tired of business as usual."
The time is now! From Alaska to Florida, anyone and everyone who wants change in Washington and can support this race for change is asked to give.
