In August 04, Bush Jr. came to the small town in which I live for a political rally and I, although a Yellow Dog Democrat through and through, saw this as an opportunity for my kids to see a sitting president speak (as much as I dislike him). It was something they will remember the rest of their lives and was important from my standpoint.
Tickets were available at the local GOP headquarters. My wife and I went down there signed up and got 4 tickets.
Little did I realize it at the time, but that simple act has given me hours of enjoyment since. I am now part a targeted member of the GOP GOTV effort here in Missouri.
(more after this)
We regularly get mailers from right-wing PACs asking for donations, and within the last few weeks have been getting at least 2 pieces of craptastic mail each day telling us why Claire McCaskill is the anti-Christ.
The most fun has been with the guys who have been calling to "mobilize us" the last few days. My wife played along the first time they called and said she had not made up her mind.
The second time she was pissed and just told them she wasn't voting.
I have engaged the callers in long conversations about how "important it is to get back at those damn terrorists, Look what they did to our people, etc..."
The first time I told them I was unsure where I voted, since we had moved... if they would find out for me it would be a big help... They called back and now Im hemming and hawing...with them. "I may not be able to get there election day Tuesdays are a big day at work, I say.. but God Bless President Bush"
Any suggestions for what I should say if I get another call..(Obviously I won't do anything illegal), but if these people are going to keep calling someone who has voted in the democratic primary for 25 years, then I will definately be there to waste their time, effort and dirty money.
