The right-wing noise machine has sprung into full action with today's comments by Senator Kerry. I strongly believe that right wing has failed and that this may actually help us in the election. Kerry struck back and struck back hard, showing backbone, courage and conviction. This has been a complaint among many voters, who look at character qualities as much as they do actual issues. John Kerry has succeded in doing something that the democrats have failed to do recently. The result is that instead of news stories simply reading 'Kerry attacks Veterans' or 'Bush demands apology from Kerry,' it reads 'Kerry, Bush spar' and 'Kerry and Bush's war of words'.
The desperation by the right-wing to push this into the MSM (mainstream media) clearly shows. The GOP tried to distort the Senator's joke and displayed artifical outrage. With the fake outrage, the MSM has the cover to make it into a story. Of course when the outrage is authentic and is generated by the actual public, it gets little attention, i.e. racist ads in Tennessee, detainee bill, domestic spying, et cetera.
For the next seven days, the right-wing noise machine will be in full force. The pressure and mainpulation on the media will be quite substanial and they will continue doing everything they can to make Democrats the issue and not them and not the issues. So, my friends, join with me and let's show them what people power is.
Do one of the following each day from now until Election Day:
- Write a letter to the editor
- Call a Major news-network (CNN, NBC, CBS). Let them know how you feel about their recent coverage.
- Call a local Television Station (local media pressure can have a more substanial impact).
- Call in to a local radio station.
The important factor is to keep the media narrative focused on the republicans and on the issues. Obviously that is a losing situation for the republicans and they will likely do whatever they can to bring the focus off of them (or Iraq). We've been outraged together so many times and we've watched traditional journalism nearly go extinct but together we've waited for the right time to give it everything we had. Torture, warrantless spying, corruption, global warming, choice, health, wages and smart national security. These are the stakes...
