Recently Janice Richie of Boliver, TN, a voter and supporter of Bill Morrison, wrote a letter-to-the-editor that sums up exactly what makes Bill the right guy at the right time for District 7.
Friends, these last few weeks I've tried to share with the trials that have faced District 7 in Tennessee thanks to the incompetence and "rubberstamp" policies of Congresswoman Blackburn (R-TN) as well as share with you the hope that Democratic Congressional Candidate Bill Morrison brings. As a loyal staffer and supporter of Bill, I know what it would mean to both Tennesseans and Americans to have Bill Morrison in the House of Representatives. But instead of listening to me again, I want to share a new voice of hope.
Recently Janice Richie of Bolivar, TN, a voter and supporter of Bill Morrison, wrote a letter-to-the-editor that sums up exactly what makes Bill the right guy at the right time for District 7. After you read this letter, I hope you will go to ActBlue.com and donate $20 to the Morrison campaign. After you read this letter, I hope you will e-mail it to anyone and everyone looking for a real Democrat to support this coming November. After you read this letter, I hope you will e-mail the campaign and pledge to contact at least 10 registered voters from District 7 by phone. Bottom line: after you read this letter, I know you'll be inclined to help make history in Tennessee.
To Whom It May Concern:
Bill Morrison was going to get my vote anyway, but after finding out more about him, I count it a privilege and honor to vote for him. This young man will stand for us, because he is one of us. He grew up in a middle class home. Both parents were educators. Joining the army reserves shortly after high school, Bill planned to be career military. An unfortunate accident in 1993 dashed his dreams. Crushed by a two-ton forklift while on a job site, doctors said he would not live through the night. He did. Then they said he would never walk again. Now he's running for Congress.
While undergoing four years of medical treatments, Bill depended on disability and government assistance to survive. In spite of rehabilitative efforts, Bill lost his left leg and today walks with prosthesis. Social security examiners told him he would continue to qualify for disability and Medicare for the rest of his life, but he turned down their offer. He wanted to give back to his community and to his country.
He became Human Resources Manager at Rural Metro in Memphis. But, he did not stop there. A vocational rehabilitation grant enabled him to go to the University of Memphis where he graduated with honors. Now a history teacher at Southwind Middle School, he was nominated Disney Teacher of the year for 2005.
Because of Bill's struggles, he understands what it means to have to depend on Social Security and other government safety nets. On a schoolteacher's salary he knows what it is to live paycheck to paycheck, and he knows how difficult teaching is when government regulations require certain standards but do not fund the programs. Each time he makes changes to his prosthesis, he realizes insurance only covers a small part of its cost. High energy costs impact him just like they do you and me. Not a career politician and not independently wealthy, he is one of us. Let the voice of our district be heard in D.C. Send Bill Morrison to Congress.
