CREW is reporting that the House Ethics Committee has not issued a subpoena for Denny Hastert in the coming Foley investigation.
Although the House Ethics Committee may have issued up to 48 subpoenas in the inquiry, and although Rep. Doc Hastings (the committee chair) has promised a thorough investigation, it appears that Hastert will not be called to testify under oath.
The CREW website is reporting:
Hastert spokesman Ron Bonjean said the speaker has not received a subpoena from the ethics committee but was willing to testify. "If the ethics committee asks him to, of course," Bonjean said.
So the Speaker might be asked to talk to the Ethics Committee, but he will not be subpoenaed and put under oath. Will these conversations with the Speaker become part of the record, or will they be conducted on backgound in closed session?
The intentions of the House Ethics Committee are now clear. They going to try and cover-up the cover-up...
