I'm Mort Meier, Democratic opponent of House Majority Leader "Tobacco John" Boehner. With your help (and continued GOP incompetence, greed and malfeasance) we'll defeat John Boehner in November.
The past week's revelations of a Congressional sexual predator and his Republican protectors have starkly revealed the motives and priorities of the Republican leadership. According to ABC News, as far back as 11 years ago, the aberrant and illegal behavior of former Republican Congressman Mark Foley was known among some of the Congressmen and staff of the House. Congressman John Boehner, whose own daughter had served as a House page, knew of this outrageous behavior for months and failed to provide the effective leadership demanded of his position as House Majority Leader, as a Congressman, and as a father. John Boehner helped protect a sexual predator in a desperate attempt to help the GOP remain in power. How can we ever trust John Boehner to do the right thing again?

As a former advocate of term limits, Republican Congressman John Boehner is now completing his 8th term in Congress. In 1995, Boehner was claiming to be a "reformer" while he was handing out checks from the tobacco industry to fellow congressmen on the floor of the House of Representatives as it was in session - a gross violation of his ethical responsibilities as public servant. Instead of providing the real reform needed to keep lobbyists from unduly influencing legislation, John Boehner instead remains a leading recipient of special interest donations and has failed miserably to check the corrosive corruption that consumed Tom Delay and plagues many others in the GOP. John Boehner would rather continue to sell out to special interests than push for the limits to Congressional terms and the corruption that he so strongly called for over 16 years ago. How can we ever trust John Boehner to do the right thing again?
The GOP and John Boehner had many chances to do the right thing. As far back as 11 years ago a sexual predator's behavior could have been stopped - if the welfare of the teen pages at risk was put above the welfare of the GOP's monopoly on power. As far back as five years ago, an ill-conceived and ineptly-executed war in Iraq could have been avoided - if the welfare of the country was put above the welfare of the GOP in the voting booth. The current administration has continually lied to, misled, distracted and divided the American public on issue after issue. John Boehner has already changed his `official' story on what he knew and when about Foley's actions at least three times, and still praises Speaker Hastert's "leadership" on this despicable issue. How can we ever trust John Boehner to do the right thing again?
If you're as outraged as I am, then please donate via my ActBlue page at www.mortmeierforconress.com, or leave me some mojo or ideas below. I could use help with virtual phonebanking for volunteers out of the area, and with canvassing for Kossacks closer to the 8th Distrct.
