Been phonebanking for moveon.org this week, and I'm tellin' ya, it feels great. As the Kerry stuff broke, I was inoculated. The talking heads and the things they say? I don't care about the talking heads. Concern trolls? Come on now -- why should I get upset about a couple of concern trolls? I'm on the phone. I'm chipping in. Mine eyes are on the prize.
The thing about the moveon.org Call for Change phone bank is how easy they've made it for anyone to volunteer on their schedule -- 1 hour, 2 hours, whatever you have. But I'm not gonna tell you about that, because I'm sure most of you already know the score. I'm not gonna tell you it's true people-powered magic, in which 70,000 folks join forces to create a new kind of political machine. And I'm definitely not gonna tell you the DFA is behind this effort too.
Take the flip, for what I am gonna tell ya...
I'm gonna tell ya that I'm going back tonight, and I'd like to encourage fellow East Bay Kossacks to come on by. Especially anyone still looking for a way to volunteer. With six days left, if you've posted a comment or a diary in the last six months, and you haven't volunteered yet, you owe it to yourself to dive in and take action.
As an added incentive, I'm bringing along some Jonathan Coulton mix CDs. I'll be wearing my Warriors baseball hat, despite last night's awful performance against the Lakers. Come by, say "I am Kossack!" or "Coulton me" or somesuch and get a CD. It's just...that...easy.
(Coulton, the force behind the tunes "flickr" and "code monkey" and "re your brains" and other modern classics, is all about Creative Commons, so this on the legal up and up. For the full-on Coulton experience: go to www.jonthancoulton.com)
So there ya have it. Phonebank. Feel good. Get a CD. Hope to see ya on the phones tonight....
Where: 360 22nd Street, Suite 210, Oakland CA (tween B'Way and Webster).
When: I'll be there from 6-9, CDs in hand. But if that time doesn't work for you, they're cranking away every day between now and Tuesday, all day from 9-9.
And of course, non-East Bay folks, go to moveon.org and sign yourself up for Call for Change.
