So we've all heard by now about the aptly-named Rev. Haggard, outed by his jilted he-ho. What I'm finding difficult to fathom (and therefore exponentially more amusing) is the utter lack of ability to just confess. The jig is up, buddy. Your crank supply dried up, and if you want to have homo sex you'll have to do it without the fiery halo of homophobic intolerance. Unless, you know, that's what you're into.
Follow, follow, follow, follow
Follow me below the fold...

But Mr. Haggard, one of the nation's leading evangelical ministers, maintained that the two men never had sex and that he threw out the drugs without using them.
"I never kept it very long because it was wrong," Mr. Haggard said, smiling grimly and submitting to questions from a television reporter as he pulled out of his driveway yesterday, his wife, Gayle, silent in the passenger seat. "I was tempted, I bought it, but I never used it."

Does this sound familiar at all? In hip-hop, we call this biting a rhyme:

In a 1992 interview with The New York Times, Mr Clinton admitted to having tried marijuana.
"When I was in England I experimented with marijuana a time or two, and I didn't like it. I didn't inhale," he told the newspaper.

It's not simply that this disgraced right-wing holy man is still trying to avoid responsibility for his hypocritical double life; after all, we humans are bundles of contradictions, and even the holiest of us have our secrets.
But Haggard is, apparently in self-deluding desparation, in effect biting one of Clinton's most pathetic (and yet somehow quite effective) public-relations aikido moves. Apparently Haggard's strategy is: Deny everything they don't have a witness for, and hold on until the news cycle shifts the Eye of Sauron away after Tuesday.
But he's just looking more and more pathetic. I mean, he's a preacher. What happened to just 'fessing up and asking for forgiveness? I'd forgive him - after the election. And I don't even believe in gods.
