Let's confidently assume for the moment that we're going to win on Tuesday. An immediate challenge will be to reduce tensions in the Party, e.g. between netroot progressives and establishmentarians like Rahm Emanuel. The best person to help do this is Big Dog.
The recent squabble over who deserves credit for expanding the field in this election should not have happened. A strong party would not behave this way one week before an election. It will be depressing if we see more of this after November 7.
That said, the problems we in the netroots have with DLCers and incumbent Dems more generally are real and legitimate. We DO deserve a huge part of the credit, and we do deserve a place at the table. Whether they think we deserve it or not, they cannot afford to talk down to us any longer.
There are some folks, like the loser of the Democratic Primary in Connecticut, with whom compromise is probably impossible and definitely unwise. But we need to get on better terms with the Pelosis and Emanuels.
Big Dog proved a few months back that he likes and admires the liberal bloggers. Most of us like him too. He is the great uniter. I think it would be a great idea for him to host more casual lunches with various leaders and activists within the Party, or something along those lines. Thoughts?
