Republican state Representative Ralph Arza (R-Hialeah) resigned today under intense pressure for a racist remark (the "N-word") he left on the voice mail of another Republican state Rep.
See video of his resignation here.
Hear Rep. Arza's racist and profanity-laced voice mail here - under the photo box. *WARNING - It's saucy.*
This story actually started back in March when it was reported that Arza called Miami-Dade School Superintendent Rudy Crew, who is black, the "N-word." Arza denied it.
Skipping ahead to last week, after another state Rep. came forward to confirm the racist remark from March, Rep. Arza called that official and left a long, likely drunk, profanity-laced tirade on his voicemail in which he, you guessed it, used the "N-word."
Today, under pressure from other members of the House and the Governor who are anxious to get the story out of the local press, Arza resigned. He told the media he is not a racist.
Well, he is. This story proves once again that Republicans love African-Americans as props for photo-ops and will say nice things about them until they think they are not being recorded.
Here's the question, why is this not national news? It's not every day that an elected Republican gets caught on tape using a racial slur.
