I'm a little confused here. It's less than a year before a general election. There's a Democratic primary going on. The Pentagon is quietly
oiling up its draft machine and
nobody's talking about it?!
To me this is crazy. Nobody in this country wants a draft to occupy a foreign state. If that were the perception of George W. Bush's foreign policy, his electability would drop like a stone. Uhm, y'know... faster than it's been doing.
The Democrats need to make the case that Bush has failed at multilateralism, and that his failure may necessitate the return of one of the most hated and feared policies in American history. I mean it's a very simple syllogism here:
The UN won't send in troops if George Bush is President.
If we don't have UN troops, we'll need a draft.
If you re-elect George Bush, we'll need a draft.
I mean that's it right there. That's the perception you need to create to get kicked out of the White House immediately. So the silence by the Dems on this issue so far is fairly deafening.
