This diary is a collection jar for stories about the personal side of election day.
To start off here are two from Minnesota. My husband and I were election judges at two different precincts.
Minnesota allows for drive-by voting, when the voter is disabled and cannot come in. In this case, two judges working with my husband went out to the car, waited for the voter to vote, and then brought the ballot back inside and fed it to the AccuVote. The voter was driven away, still in his hospital gown!

I spent most of the day registering new voters. Same day registration is simple if the driver's license bears the correct address. Otherwise, the voter can bring a current utility bill, or they can be "vouchered" in by another registered voter from the precinct. That voter can be new, but can't be vouchered themselves.
A young couple came in. She wanted to vote, he was humoring her. But her address was wrong, and she only had a bank statement. He, on the other hand, had never voted and didn't intend to. But he lived in the precinct, at the address on his driver's license. So... He registered himself, then vouchered her in. And then decided to vote himself!
In my precinct, approximately 12 voters in every 100 was a new registration. Some had merely moved, but many, like that young couple, were voting for the first time. We registered nearly 180 people.
